Living in that world, floating in a vacuum, time at a standstill.
Looking back, it’s surreal that it happened.
I wasn’t thinking about shooting the city, but one day, crossing Fifth Avenue by St. Patrick’s Cathedral, I came to a dead stop. Not because of the usual traffic, but because it was completely void of all life. I could see as far as the eye could see, north and south. It blew me away, I froze. Complete silence. The scene was so eerie, I had no choice but to grab my camera and capture the emptiness.
All images were shot midweek in New York City, April 2020, at the beginning of the lockdown.
